CZARINA: A Sprinter Underrated

B uzzzzzz… Wake-up. Eat. School. Training. Homework. Sleep. Vice versa.

A typical routine of student-athletes. There is more than meets the eye– student-athletes have a very structured and intense schedule each day. Between classes, studying, and training– there is not much free time to relax, and this added complexity among student-athletes of attempting to balance academics, athletics and social time.

Czarina Duran, a Michaelinian sprinter, is one of the best athletes in the region. She has won several track and field running events in the regional meet, and even competed to the nationals and emerged as a bronze medalist.

Czarina managed to overcome the hurdles both in the track and field and in personal pursuits. Her metamorphosis was from a kit to a brisk cheetah. Why cheetah? Czarina’s gait makes the dynamics of a great runner. Being born for such gait comes at a price in the klieg light of track and field.

However, Czarina is unable to utilize her true potential because of less support and inadequate facilities needed for her training. She should have been well nurtured to become great in the field, but she is not great enough to be recognized. She is underrated.

What is good about Czarina is her fighting spirit, and how she unleashes it to have courage, determination and an intense desire to never give up. For her, being a student-athlete is not easy, and sometimes it is harder than being just a regular student. She has to balance her academics, athletics, and personal life all at the same time– and that takes her a lot of time and energy to make it all work.

As a student, she is determined to persevere, gives her best and take advantage of opportunities his school has to offer.

As an athlete, she takes a serious work ethics in sports and aims to improve every day athletically because she believes that here is always a room to grow.

To Czarina, go ahead. Push your limitation always and learn things with your open mind. Feel the environment and embrace the truth of life that lies in hard work and dedication. Think beyond your imagination. Whatever it takes, we are so proud of you, Kabayani!
