Michaelinians: Not your ordinary Kabayani in these trying times

W ith the strict implementation to stay at home, Nasipitnons can only go out from their houses for important reasons such as to buy food and medicine. At the frontline are our health workers, police personnel, staff of health facilities, barangay officials, SK officials, AKRHO and Tau Gamma volunteers, among others whose services are most needed in these trying times.

Witnessing how these frontliners have worked hard against COVID-19, Kabayaning Michaelinians never wasted a single time to think of how they can reciprocate the sacrifices of frontliners. Yet when it dawned on how boredom might dominate their stay at their homes, personnel realized it's high time to express their gratitude to all frontliners out there.

The three cause-oriented days took place on April 1-3, 2020. This outreach program dubbed as MAGBAYANIHAN TAYO: Talunin ang COVID 19 was spearheaded by the office of Research, Internalization, Extension, and Linkages (RIELD) with their Director Dr. Beverly D. Jaminal. Rice, canned goods, noodles, bread, coffee, and the much needed protection in these trying times - masks and alcohol, were distributed to all checkpoints in the 19 barangays of the municipality through their respective Barangay Councils.

Also counted recipients of the program were RHU checkpoints, Nasipit District Hospital, the indigenous people of barangay Sta. Ana, the regional and provincial PNP checkpoints in Carmen boundary and Bancasi checkpoint in Butuan City.

"Not because we are under home quarantine, we cannot do meaningful things. There are actually more things we can do now, and one is to reach out our frontliners who risk their lives for us," Dr. Jaminal said.

MAGBANIHAN TAYO community extension program continues to bring in inspiration and courage to frontline health workers and other personnel working in the province. And for all Kabayani, there is nothing more fulfilling but to see the smiles of the frontliners whom they consider the “modern- day heroes.”
